WHO I AM

I am Dr. Sekela Mungai Coles, an educator, author, organizer, certified coach, survivor, and proud mother of two young adults. I have served in many leadership roles on nonprofit boards and in politics, including as a presidential delegate for President Barack Obama, a transition team member for Governor Tom Wolf, and as a local elected councilwoman where I was the first Black woman and Democrat elected to my seat. While on council I created many initiatives including Council’s Black History Month Poetry contest for school children and hosted annual Domestic Violence Awareness workshops during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I have taught at the collegiate level for over a decade and have worked in leadership roles in both the corporate and government sector. I received my undergraduate degree from Lincoln University and my graduate degree from Penn State University. As a committed life-long learner I earned my doctoral degree in Public Policy & Administration from Walden University. I published my first book “Chocolate Girls’ Poems: Because Life Can Be Poetic” in 2024 followed by "How To Champion for Our Youth in High School" in early 2025. "Chocolate Girls' Poems 2: The Darker the Berry, The Sweeter the Juice" was published in the summer of 2025 and now I am currently working on a book titled "Achieving After Trauma: Uplifting Women Who Have Confronted Challenges". In addition, I wrote and published a four-book short story adult fiction series called "The Quickie Tales" which was completed in 2026.
